A U.S. government auction site was breached by an Oklahoma man, reports NBC News. So when it came time to pay up on his winning bids, he "falsified the true auction price to $1," according to the U.S. attorney's office.
He defrauded the government out of more than $150,000 between Jan. 31 and March 21, 2019, the indictment alleges. Included in the $1-buys were a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid, for which Coker submitted a bid of $8,327; a Ford F550 pickup, with a bid of $9,000; and a Chevrolet C4500 box truck, bid $22,700; the U.S. attorney's office said...
Nineteen items in all were bought through the auctions, according to prosecutors. Coker used eight accounts and pre-paid debit cards with very little balances to make the purchases, the indictment says.

No we didn't. Some of us look at more than 2-3 data points to draw a trend. Also where in the story does it say the person was "destroyed"? By all accounts he was peacefully arrested and pleaded guilty to wire fraud and will likely go to jail for a few years as a result.

Would the same reasoning for that it deserving the death penalty be valid for, let's say, a middle-class suburban person of, er, a "more mainstream" ethnicity, caught with it in their system? If yes, kudos for the consistency. If not, why not?

Well, I hate to use an argument some Republicans are fond of, but poor people are often poor for a reason, namely not so good mental facilities. Poor Republican voters are essentially doing it to themselves. I do not think exploiting them in this way is morally acceptable, but Republican politicians as a group have no qualms using those mental limitations against their own voters.
