Watching Porn Now Requires Age Verification in Louisiana Because of New Law 328
An anonymous reader shares a report: The porn industry has been around for a while and in today's digital age business is booming. When Laurie Schlegel isn't seeing her patients who struggle with sex addiction, she's at the Louisiana State Capitol. The Republican state representative from Metairie passed HB 142 earlier this year requiring age verification for any website that contains 33.3% or more pornographic material. "Pornography is destroying our children and they're getting unlimited access to it on the internet and so if the pornography companies aren't going to be responsible, I thought we need to go ahead and hold them accountable," said Schlegel. According to Schlegel, websites would verify someone's age in collaboration with LA Wallet. So, if you plan on using these sites in the future, you may want to download the app. "I would say so," said Sara Kelley, project manager with Envoc. "I mean, I think it's a must-have for anyone who has a Louisiana state ID or driver's license."
Kelley added there are other ways websites could ask you to verify your age if you cannot access LA Wallet. She added that although some personal information will be required, companies must not retain personal data after complete verification. "It doesn't identify your date of birth, it doesn't identify who you are, where you live, what part of the state you're in, or any information from your device or from your actual ID. It just returns that age to say that yes, this person is old enough to be allowed to go in," explained Kelley. It will be the website's responsibility to ensure age verification is required when accessing their site in Louisiana. Schlegel said there will be consequences for those who fail to follow the law.

This relates to morality, but aside from the fact that not all (or even close to all) porn is about one-sided dehumanization of women, there's also the obvious fact that the majority of porn is fantasy. You seem to be taking it as a given that all objectification is bad in all contexts, but I do not believe it is inherently bad in the context of fantasy. Healthy adults with functional brains are able to separate fantasy from fiction and will not go out and treat real women the same way that they see in pornography. There are people out there who do treat women like that, but I have serious doubts as to whether that has anything to do with pornography; rather, I suspect the causes are more related to social problems, such as growing up in an environment where objectification of women is normalized (see: many heavily red states), or being in such an unbearable situation socially that they're having difficulty suppressing negative behaviors that they're aware are wrong (see: people struggling to make ends meet).
I also wonder as to the implication that men "venting their frustration" is somehow a bad thing. "Venting" is a coping mechanism that exists because we evolved from animals that brutalized each other with regularity; as much as we'd like to believe we're beyond that, those behaviors are built into our DNA. There's no shame in admitting that you have negative urges, the shame would be in acting on them in a way that harms others. For those who have a need to vent, doing so is a good thing, and not being able to do so at the minimum increases their mental burden. And while that may not in itself be enough to move someone to do something unethical, the more of a mental burden someone is bearing, the more likely it is that their self-control could fail and they might do something bad. Recognizing your baser impulses and finding ways to cope that don't harm others is extremely important for anyone with self-control issues.
It's a media industry built around fulfilling a basic impulse that is as old as life in a society where going out and fulfilling that impulse the way animals would do it is universally recognized as immoral. Your caricature of someone who watches porn being a "macho loser" is out of touch with reality; most people who don't have sex regularly either watch porn or find some other way to deal with their sexual impulses, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Pre-pubescent children shouldn't be watching porn at all, and if you disagree with me, I think we have a fundamental disagreement that won't be resolved by words. I think it's fine for teenagers to watch it (it's certainly better than ending up with an unplanned pregnancy), but their parents and/or educators need to contextualize it: the things you mentioned about objectification of women actually apply when we're talking about kids who don't know how the world works yet, so the roleplaying element needs to be explained so they don't think this is how you should treat actual women.
The main problem I have with the porn industry (aside from the obvious like human trafficking) are that men and women with no better options often turn to it for lack of better options and that this unfortunate fact of life is often exploited for profit. Ask a teacher in Ontario, Canada, to explain to a class of grade 7 / 8 students about basic BDSM concepts, and watch them dig in, refuse, and in many case trying banning your input. When you realize that sexual education is less about education, and more about dogmatic liberalization and radically stupid modern liberal concepts about gender and pronouns, all of a sudden "Porn", starts to become a valid and use education tool.
These bills that require age verification are restricting access to educational material, while violating freedoms and liberties, and all for what? When a kid has questions they can't ask a parent, or they feel very odd / strange for having a fantasy, that they've always been told is wrong, bad, or unacceptable, "Porn" can be the educator. Sites like Sexually Broken, Device Bondage, The Upper Floor, HuCows, etc... allow the safe and expansive exploration of sexual interest, and to limit them behind strict age verification is dangerous, irresponsible and stupid.

Actually, there is.
Sites set X-HEADER with X-AGE=13 for 13 &m up or what ever age. No X-AGE means no age restriction
Parents set age on kids browser and lock it - requires browser changes
Most if not all porn sites will set the header with out a law making them do it. Kids are bad for business becuse they steal credit cards to use then the site gets charge backs. Too many and they lose their merchant account and can't take cards.
Edge - MS would implement it before the hat hit the floor.
Chrome would too, because.
Firefox too.
Leaves out "fixing" older browsers but like I said elsewhere, it's not the internet's job to raise your child in the first place.

So basically they want to control the entire world .. lol
I was also amused by (my emphasis)
(iii) Sexual intercourse, masturbation, sodomy, bestiality, oral copulation, flagellation, excretory functions, exhibitions, or any other sexual act.
I understand flagellation as a religious practice, but apparently there are sexual connotations as well.

Because the connection to free access to porn and rape numbers being lower is solid. The other way round as well. And no, pornography is not destroying any children, that is just extremist conservative propaganda, with zero scientifically sound evidence for it. Of course, proper experiments cannot be done (due to illegality of showing porn to teenagers (children are known to just not be interested), how convenient), but indirect studies (ask them) are possible and routinely show that teenagers old enough to be interested have had access to porn for a long time, much longer than the Internet exists. There are some negative effects, sure, like feeling inadequate or confusing what is basically an athletic performance with what people do with each other in the real world. The solution to that is explanation and education. And then the problem is solved.
Of course is zero chance of this law having any positive effect. It is just some assholes and some idiots doing virtue signalling. This law may well have some negative effects though.
