Discord Removes Servers Dedicated To Pirating Porn (vice.com) 46

After Motherboard discovered multiple servers on Discord containing pirated porn, the chat platform removed them and banned the owners of each. From a report: "Discord prohibits the sale, dissemination, and promotion of cracked accounts," a spokesperson told Motherboard. "We ban users and shut down servers that are responsible for this behavior. In cases of copyrighted material, we respond promptly to DMCA takedown requests and take the appropriate action." The bans are permanent, and the owners can no longer access their accounts for any purpose. Former members of those servers can no longer access those servers, either.

During Motherboard's reporting, Google removed an OnlyFans scraping Chrome extension when approached for comment. Stolen content is a problem that has plagued the adult industry for as long as porn has existed on the internet. Several owners of premium platforms similar to OnlyFans urged the industry to do better in how it safeguards content, by protecting models from theft using more advanced fingerprinting, watermarking, copyright takedown support, and technology that could prevent scrapers from using these tools to begin with.

  • You can't take down an actual server so easily. If Discord owns the platform and infra, you're just using dumb social media.

Discord internally calls them "guilds" because they aren't, in fact, servers. They're not even analogous to servers in any sense. They're just groups of chat and voice channels, and that's it.

Not that it really matters. Discord is on its way out. It's clear that they've hit that part in a tech company's growth where they can't bank on "increasing user base" any more, and now have to figure out how to make money without pissing off investors, and are therefore adding user-hostile "features" to try and keep t

Discord will remain for as long as it remains a sole competitor in that specific niche of offering easy to use low latency high quality voice communication software combined with social media elements that are largely desirable for someone managing communities of various sizes.

That said, TeamSpeak 4 is coming, and if their screenshots are anything to go by, their offering is going to be a blatant Discord clone. And they are promising ability to host your own server, which means communities that want to evad

"Pirating Porn" is like saying reading up a newspaper left on a table at Starbucks is stealing.

Seriously, is there some new level of porn I've never heard of or seen behind all these paywalls that I haven't seen on Pornhub, etc?

Do I even want to know about that?

Believe me, you do not want to know about it.

        • For anyone curious and unaware there's an excellent review of this masterpiece from Something Awful [somethingawful.com] that chronicles the creation of this particular work of art. Honestly, there's probably much worse stuff out on the internet these days, but in the simpler times when the net was still young swap.avi was probably the worst thing most people knew about.
  • I don't know anything about the record industry and Hollywood, so that might be totally different, but I did know many of the people running the popular independent porn sites like ideepthroat.com.

I would say the increased piracy at the time of the rise of tube sites decimated the industry, but that would be an understatement - decimate means kill off 1/10th. It killed off a lot more than 10%. They couldn't keep producing unique content when only 0.001% of the customers for their content paid for it, and

    • by Luckyo ( 1726890 )

I would argue that a far bigger problem there was the quality of content. Porn is not a glamorous job in the West, outside the tiny clique of genuine "stars". Everyone else has to work their asses off and effectively destroy their chances for stable future family life for fairly small pay. Which means that it's usually a job for people who need to pay for their drug habits or other similar extreme tastes. And it tends to show on the performers. They're not really all that good looking even with glamour make

      • It really is an applied rule of breaking into a saturated market. While western porn provides the baseline T'nA with nothing else, Russia/Ukraine provides girls with good looks and what appears to be an acceptable personality.

With the effect of dopamine resistance, porn must become more severe or simply better to achieve the same result, so chronic users will mostly be only disgusted by what they find on the free sites like pornhub and their expected response becomes harder and harder to find. Ironic tha

I know this is naive, but I'm kind of surprised that with the petabytes of porn that are available for free on legitimate porn sites, there is still a market for making new porn and then for people to pirate it. Not to mention the people who actually pay for it.

          • by Luckyo ( 1726890 )

You cannot become more desensitized to many base drivers. Chronic pain for example never becomes something you just stop caring about. Sex drive will tend to continue to respond to same physical stimuli. Specific hard coded warning sounds will continue to alert you (i.e. how we now manage many invasive bird populations, they cannot become desensitized to their hard coded warning cries).

I suspect modern Western society is far too deeply concerned about "addiction" as a result of overbearing hedonism that is

vs your supposed refutation that still states:

                >It never goes away

Yeah, it doesn't. It's a basic driver, and being incapable of properly processing pain is a severe illness sufferers of which usually lose all ability to operate their fingers by the time they're twenty and death from general wear and tear on the body by fourty. That's what inability to process sensory input informing you of damage to your body causes over time.

Comes with being very active in contact ball sports to this day, a lot of people who still do it have chronic pain from joint and spinal injuries in my age.

If you were my friend, every time you get this projection, I'd manage it with a few casual jokes to remind you that this isn't about us and to allow you to de-escalate without any loss of face. But you're a malicious liar who consi

One last thing I forgot to include in the previous reply. If you are instead referring to sensory adaptation mechamism, where new stimulus spikes followed by "levelling out", this is nearly universal to all human senses. A new smell only feels overpowering for a short period of time. Cutting your finger only really hurts for a short period of time. Pressure of new clothes on your skin only feels strange and new for a few seconds. A sharp taste of new food you put in your mouth goes away very quickly even if

Cub can be different things to different people.

In the gay community a "bear" is a person with a lot of hair and a "cub" may be a younger or smaller/lighter-weight "bear." For Discord, think hairy-twink-of-legal-age gay porn or drawings of the same.

In the furry community on Discord it would be legal-aged adults in fursuits that portray "young" animals or drawings of "young" anthropomorphized animals.

I supposed it could technically be a human under 18 in an all-ages-friendly animal costume as long as there
