Dot.info is Live

Probably the only thing alive is afilias.info [afilias.info] AKA nic.info.

It's just beyond my comprehension why a TLD this general should have its registry in the domain itself...

(The same way, that the impossible .sex domain should not have its registry at thesexregistry.sex.. It would be quite sufficient to have a "pornia.com the dot sex registry" etc...) Clean up this mess of everyone "reserving" domains "'cause it sounds/looks good"...

i wonder how many people are going to get screwed up typing .info.com or not realizing that there are four leters back there after the dot, and shorten it to .inf. trust me. if there's one thing i've learned, it's to never underestimate the sheer power of human stupidity. so where's slashdot.info?

You can't load dell.info, but you can load www.dell.info. It promptly redirects you to dell.com.

I checked some common noun names to see if they have sites up yet and all I could find were the following (none with real content)
state.info (coming soon)
dog.info (coming soon)
bird.info (redirects to some dotinfo search page)
cartoon.info (for sale)
light.info (under construction (in german?))
law.info (for sale)

So I guess it might be a while before we see anything.

Everyone's tired of the new domains - they don't help the current pathetic domain name space situation any... Failure at the beginning, but maybe that's just because there are not many interesting TLDs just yet.

One thing that tells about their worthlessness: Posted to section only to Slashdot, a forum that would, under normal circumstances, take a bigger note of events of such scale...

I bet "First Major Site Moves Entirely To IPv6 Space" will get bigger attention =)

Get this... you can register now for the new low price of $50 (USD)/domain/Year. And, wouldn'tya know it, these folks are sooo nice, they will auto-bill you for your first 5 years of registration :)

IOW, $200/Domain to get in.

To .info or to .com that is the question

It's all very well dell creating dell.info that redirects to dell.com but personally I can see little point, I mean if I was going to try and guess the URL 3 letters wins over four any day :), but this isn't just about my lazy fingers, it's about what people know best and all over the TV it's www.??????.com or www.??????.co.uk so these are the ones that people are used to so more than likelly they are going to try dell.com first or they would have to go through the agony of using a search engine that charges more depending on where you want your result to appear and *GASP* guess what will come up if you type Dell into a search engine.

As far as I can see these new TLD's are not worth the hassle.
