2000 Jefferson Muzzles 1

The ninth annual Jefferson Muzzles have been awarded, and three of them involve the internet. George W. Bush's muzzle was won for a cease-and-desist campaign against a parody website. Best W. quote: "There ought to be limits to freedom." Just down the road from the Geek Compound, the Georgetown Township Trustees won a muzzle for forcing censorware on all their library patrons. And the FBI was antilauded for shutting down a site with a fictional documentary-style film about impending Y2K tyranny (the fin de siècle equivalent of yanking the broadcast of Orson Welles' Mars-landing radio program). Noncongratulations to all the winners!
