UK Police Arrest Alleged 'GTA VI' Hacker (yahoo.com) 20
Police in the UK have arrested a 17-year-old suspected hacker. Reports suggest the arrest is connected to the Rockstar Games hack that led to a major Grand Theft Auto VI leak. The individual may have been involved with an intrusion on Uber as well. From a report: According to journalist Matthew Keys' sources, the arrest is the result of an investigation involving the City of London Police, the UK's National Cyber Crime Unit and the FBI. Keys noted that the police and/or the FBI will reveal more details about the arrest later today. The City of London Police told Engadget it had "no further information to share at this stage."

It is the City of London Police that is involved in this case. The City of London Police are a territorial police force for the financial district of the City. The Metropolitan Police are a completely different organisation.
Indeed, and neither should be involved as the guy was arrested in Oxfordshire (according to the article) and Oxfordshire is policed by the Themes Valley Police. If anything he should have been arrested by the TVP.
Given the CoL police are more or less a corporate enforcement for hire, I have to ask if he's actually broken any UK law. I could see the argument for "unauthorised access to a computer system" but the arrest should have been carried out by the local Rozzers.

that this was the same kid who hacked Uber and also that they were, in this instance, threatening to release the source code publicly if they didn't get a ransom. No idea if either of those things are true, but the video I watched about it [youtube.com] did say someone got doxxed and that they were in the UK.

Did they chase him about the city, on-foot as he left a streak of jacked cars that he drove poorly for a few feet before crashing or otherwise incapacitating the car ineptly?
