Registrars Rebel Against ICANN Budget 9

I_am_Rambi writes "According to an article on News.com.com, ICANN is having to rework their budget. 'ICANN, based in Marina del Rey, Calif., is facing a tight deadline to revise its record $15.8 million budget to placate a growing number of rebellious registrars united in opposition to a new fee structure....Fearful that the combined fees could top $19,000 and put them out of business, 75 smaller registrars have banded together to protest the budget.'"

You don't have to use the standard root servers. Use Opennic for example. The only thing you lose is the ICANN .biz domain, which is mostly spam anyway.
    • ICANN has always been a corporation. It used to be somewhat less corrupt, or so I'm told... But to say "the other root servers" doesn't mean anything in the way you seem to be suggesting it, as ICANN has dominion over ALL the root servers. (At least those in the "standard" US Govt. DNS hierarchy.) You may be thinking of Verisign, which runs the .com registry, and could also use some serious overthrowing.

Ideally, we should all switch to an /alternate root/ system, which eschews ICANN in favor of an entirely
