New Segment From Fact Squad: "GoldHacker" 15

Fact Squad co-founder Lauren Weinstein writes: "Greetings. The latest "Fact Squad Radio" short audio (MP3) segment concerns Rep. Berman's bill in the U.S. House which would legalize attacks against P2P file-sharing networks and systems by copyright owners. The segment is entitled "GoldHacker" and is available via: http://www.factsquad.org/radio It may be of some interest." And this is something you can stream without bowing to the RIAA, too.

  • But as the arch-villian Goldfinger might have put it: They don't want us to talk, they just want our rights to die.
I view this as a missed opportunity for an Austin Powers reference.

  • Will the record companies use a giant laser, invented by the famous Cambridge physicist Alan Parsons, to target your cable or DSL modem if you are swapping MP3s?

"Behold the awsome power of the Alan Parsons Project!"
  • ...the RIAA would attack your machine if they found THIS mp3 on it?
  • ...

anti-gun lobbies are pushing for the rights to secretly swap out real bullets for fakes/blanks because guns are used in so many crimes. You'll only know you got a fake when the gun fails to discharge.

    • Heh. What an interesting idea. Of course, how many criminals actually shoot the gun in the course of their crime?

I mean, if I were being mugged at gun-point I wouldn't say "Hmmm... there is a one in 10 chance that the bullet he has in the chamber is a dud. I might as well try it". Involuntary Russian Roulette.

I understand that you're only using this as a clever counter-point, but don't say it too loud. Wrong person hears you and you'll see in law within a year.

"In other news, gun related fatalities are at an all time low. However, this has correlated to an increase in the amount of bear maulings, moose tramplings, and death by rabid hamster attack. Says hunter John Smith "The gun just wouldn't shoot!"
    • I'm glad I re-load my own bullets. A little gun powder (I shake the bottle of gunpowder first so it is well mixed), measured into a shell, some lead (melt it myself) as a tip, and a primer. I know my bullets work, as do many others.

  • He starts the segments with a tone just like npr, but I think it is from Monty Python's sound library.
