BPDG Open Conference Call Today 8

An Anonymous Coward writes: "The Broadcast Protection Discussion Group is having all kinds of discussions that will probably decide all kinds of things, like what devices we have for DVD and HDTV in the future and whether not opened source solutions will work with such technologies. EFF posted yesterday the details of the conference call, which is supposed to be an open process. Perhaps slashdotters should try to join?" The call starts at 23:00 GMT, which is 7 p.m. on the East coast of the U.S. and 4 p.m. Pacific.

Just when you think those bozos have done enough damage, they come up with something new!

Regulating ADCs! I can see what will happen - a small, efficient, and low noise ADC in a SOT23 package will need an control chip with 500000gates so that it can be legally used!

In my job, I develop ways to make sure ADCs are made properly. One big problem is that the digital circuits produce a lot of noise, and degrade the performance of analog section of the ADC. So, adding on all the extra digital logic for copy-protection will result in lower performance ADCs everywhere.

EFF condemns the disruptive behavior of hecklers [eff.org] who have been joining the call. You're putting public access at risk! Would you rather the public have no idea what the MPAA is planning? Would you rather have no source of news about proposed legislation?

What are the odds the hecklers are working for the MPAA/RIAA?

There's really no better way to "win" something like this than to make your opposition look like idiots.
  • That's why I, and you, should call these people music-nazis or movie-nazis. They are a dangerous group of extremists: just as dangerous to the public as the KKK, Scientologists, and NAMBLA.

Hasn't anyone else noticed that the RIAA and MPAA websites look like front-ends for the entry into "the dark side of the force"? At least their honest about it, unlike the priests: black evil souls should wear black clothes, and have black web pages.
  • then we're in BIG trouble. I encourage you to download their PDFs and read them, at least as much as your stomach can handle. Theses guys are to the whole media industry what the RIAA is to the music biz. It's time to fight back

Let's organize this thing and take all the fun out of it.
