Submission + - French RIAA hijacks p2p application's website (

J0nne writes: "The official domain name of the open source Shareaza multiprotocol p2p application was recently taken over by the SPPF, the French version of the RIAA. Even though the Shareaza project has no assets in France (or anywhere else), they somehow managed to coerce the owner of the domain to give it up to them. The domain now points to a scam site that serves a p2p application containing spyware to unsuspecting visitors. The Shareaza project lives on at, but thousands of unsuspecting users are currently being tricked into downloading the spyware version of the p2p application through the program's own update notification system (which checks the old domain in older versions of the application)."
