Submission + - Capcom announces unreplayable game (dvice.com) 3

Hatta writes: Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS will be an experience that can be completed once per customer. Using a single, unwipable save slot Capcom ensures that a second hand customer gets a second rate experience. If you buy this game used, you will be stuck with the previous owner's progress, unable to start the game fresh.

Capcom announces unreplayable game

  • Modern on-cart saves are flash-based, aren't they? As in, a long way from the old days of purely battery-backed RAM slots?

Pity shame. I recall days when I accidentally yoinked SNES carts while the power to the console was still on, and that did a pretty good job of wiping out the RAM. Oh, well. Guess the homebrew community will just find a way to wipe it outside the scope of the game itself before trading the game to their friends.

  • So can I assume from this that Capcom believe their games are so boring that nobody would ever want to play them more than once?

Over the shoulder supervision is more a need of the manager than the programming task.
