mvar writes: Whistle-blower site WikiLeaks has been nominated for the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian politician who cited its role in freedom of speech, news agency NTB reported Wednesday. "WikiLeaks is one of this century's most important contributors to freedom of speech and transparency," parliamentarian Snorre Valen said in his nomination. Valen cited WikiLeaks role in disclosing the assests of Tunisia's former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and his nearest family, contributing to the protests that forced them into exile.

  • It's sad to see how the Nobel Prize is increasingly used as a political tool. It happened with Obama on 2009 and it's being used again. Even if we applaud the enormous and great work Wikileaks has done, there hasn't passed enough time to tell whether if their leaks have done more good than harm. Imagine one of those leaks being the excuse for a war in the future?

    • I was going to post this earlier, and the internet gods decided not to let me do it... Is it just me, or does the Nobel peace prize get nominated for people who will most piss off others? If I am recalling correctly, before this, there was someone who pissed off the Chinese (a peace leader/terrorist, depending on who you were listening to), and before that, President Obama's nomination pissed off the anti-war crowd.
