Submission + - Extremists Warn South Park Creators Over Mohammed (

An anonymous reader writes: "A radical Islamic website is warning the creators of "South Park" that they could face violent retribution for depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit during an episode broadcast on Comedy Central last week. posted the warning following the 200th episode of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's "South Park," which included a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad disguised in a bear suit. The Web posting also included a graphic photo of Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was murdered in 2004 after making a documentary on violence against Muslim women."

We criticize a lot governments censoring questionable websites or political opponents, however a far more concerning, and possibly more dangerous, form of censorship is that of Islam. Not only are high profile individuals being targeted for death for criticizing the religion, but they happen (at times) within our own borders. So the question remains: what can/should we do about this? We could remain silent, but that would go against our free speech principles, in addition to only giving the extremists further incentives to keep us quiet. On the other hand, we get death threats. Of course fans of political correctness aren't helping either.
