An anonymous reader shares a report: The "Internet of Things" (IoT) category is starting to mature in terms of startup investments, according to a new report from Silicon Valley venture capital firm Wing. Like any other trendy area of tech, IoT is in the midst of its own hype cycle, so it's important to get a more detailed picture of how the money is flowing.

    Who the hell is interested? Who's buying? I specifically DO NOT want my washing machine, dryer, fridge, etc connected to the technocracy omni-net.
    Not to even begin on the obvious security flaws that are, seemingly, intentionally baked into these products. No thanks, NSA. Find a different way to film me.

    • It's a shame that the driver behind all of those things is a way to monetize people and their behaviors.

  • AI is "maturing" too. The definition of "maturing" means "how much money can we get from venture capital"? Of course the field itself is stagnant, but the hype is real.

    I have a fully wired house with SmartThings hub, Logitech Harmony, Nest thermostat, Nest smoke detectors, Samsung smart cams, motion sensors galore, Amazon Dots in every room etc...and I can tell you it's still all not mature and laughably integrated especially with Alexa and the voice recognition bit is sort of the whole point. Like I can tell Alexa to turn on my TV with the Harmony but good luck reliable switching channel and most importantly sources. It can do channel switching halfway passably with a h

  • Does *anyone* care about this stupid subject, except insofar as it's an example of developer-driven solution-in-need-of-a-problem that the gullible proles may be tricked into believing they need?

  • The IoT is the biggest farce ever and consumers are not falling for it anymore. They though their deviant ways to have consumer's usage be tracked and sold to advertisers would work but for once consumers said enough!

    Much like smart watches which have thankfully died down to the niche that they always were, hopefully internet connected TVs, fridges, and toilets will become a painful and forgotten technological memory of the past like Windows Me.

  • I hope it will be decline next. The Internet Of Hazards have brought too many clickbait stories already.
  • I will not buy any IoT device. The idea of smart devices is appealing, but I don't want any of them to be connected directly to the Internet. If they generate data, it needs to be stored on a device within my home that I control, not the manufacturer! If I want to send it a command from my phone, then it has to go through a secure device that once again, I control and can set the security settings on.
