Legal experts interviewed by CNET point to a large scale effort by intelligence agencies to use loopholes in the law to gather real-time location information on the mobile phones of millions of people. The source of the data? The hundreds of smaller companies that play background roles in the wireless telecommunications industry. The end result: Spies now have desktop access to a mashup of Google Earth + real time phone location data."
