Very interesting, and surprising this hasn't been picked up by any of the tech press.
IMHO, there is a big difference between what VeriSign did with SiteFinder and what companies like OpenDNS do. After all, the ads are part of the bargain customers choose to accept for free DNS service. This is less so with your ISP, but the smarter customer can switch if he or she chooses. Of course the vast majority won't.
I agree with Coward, VeriSign may have just been handed a new revenue stream.
