court
I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a ruling by a lower court that Dish Network DVRs infringe upon TiVO's patent on a 'multimedia time warping system'. According to some analysts, this could not only make Dish liable for damages, it could force them to shut down their DVR service, harming their customers. The patent in question has already been reexamined once and the ruling on appeal (PDF) was unanimous."

  • I don't know anything about Dish Network's DVRs, so I don't know if they really are infringing on anything above and beyond the rather obvious "make a VCR that records to a hard drive instead of tapes", but considering that Dish Network has been having a different telemarketing firm robo-call us once or more per week for over a year now (being on last week's firm's do not call list does nothing to stop this week's firm), they can't be made to suffer too much from my point of view.
GOOD-NIGHT, everybody ... Now I have to go administer FIRST-AID to my pet LEISURE SUIT!!
