+ - New particle discovered by CERN experiments->

Submitted by
toruonu
toruonu writes "Both CMS and ATLAS experiments have shown today at a seminar a clear observation of a new particle. Both experiments see 5 sigma excess in the main high precision channels used to search for the Higgs boson and the results are consistent with the Higgs boson. However more data and more precise measurements are needed to make sure that we are not confusing a new physics process with the Higgs. In addition to the high precision channels CMS also presented results from low precision channels as well as first measurement of the particle mass (125.3 +- 0.6 GeV) as well as compatibility of couplings to the Standard Model (there is some tension there).

For further details: CMS press release, ATLAS press release"
