schwit1 (797399) writes "A WSJ article says Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain.

Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker."

  • There was a time where such a bill would have been laughed out of congress. However, after seeing recent legislation and the public's response, I fear it may actually have a chance this time.

Concerns about personal privacy aside, what benefit would this really provide? There are already services available to employers if they want to verify citizenship. What good will any of it do if the government continues to look the other way when they do find a criminal? Really it's just more red tape and tax dollars.

After any salary raise, you will have less money at the end of the month than you did before.
