I think I just received one of these letters. Here's a quote:

Dear Sir/Madam:

Department records indicate that we maynot have received your North Carolina tax return for the year indicated above. ... If you have filed a return, please furnish a copy of the return. If you were not required to file a return, please furnish an explanation.

The funny part? It's for 1999, two years before I'd ever set foot in North Carolina. And it was sent April 1st...

My problem isn't with the use of databases in a manner like this, I question whether or not being absent from these databases will be enough to raise eyebrows at the IRS. Whenever possible, I pay using cash. If it's something that I don't want people to know I'm buying, it's cash. If I buy cigarettes, usually I pay with cash. When I buy a gun, I pay with cash. When I buy fatty foods, I pay with cash.

As long as this practice doesn't lead to someone saying "Hey, this Kano fellow never buys food. EVER! He must be up to something! Audit him!", I don't have too much of a problem with it.

However, since we people have demonstrated time and time again that they can not be trusted not to abuse a power if it is more expedient for them to do so, I have to say that it's a BAD idea to permit this.

There have been numerious Supreme court rulings that 'income', as used in the tax codes, means a profit made by corporations. Everyday americans are not Corporations. But hey, if you want to whine about having to pay taxes on 'income' go right ahead.

And to boot no law makes anybody liable for income tax.
Yes, the tax is imposed. There is such a law. But untill a law makes you liable for it, why pay it. Yes, code section 6011 AKA General rule -says anybody 'liable' has to file a return. Let the snipe hunt begin.

A little bit of reading of Title 26 of the internal Revenue code will shock you and make you wonder why people are sitting in jail today like Dick Simkanin.

And there is the victory of Vernice Kuglin who was aqcuited of income tax charges. Seems the government refused to produce the law that made her liable for the income tax and the Jury wasn't amused. She walked on 30 years in prison and $1.5 million in fines.

If you don't really like what the government is running amuck blowing twice as much as you give, them mayby it is about time they need to go on a diet. They are distroying this country and running tech-production jobs out and walmart jobs in(US largest employer now).

Now if we could stop them from printing more money from thin air and spending that, then we might stop inflation too. But that is the fairest tax because everybodys money becomes slowly WORTHLESS at the same time.

Do people like you just search for the word tax and post to any forum that mentions it.

If you put as much energy into something productive as you do into working out why tax isn't legal we'd all be better off I think.
