Intermix Media to Settle Spyware Lawsuit 9

lowrydr310 writes "Web marketer Intermix Media Inc. said it has agreed to pay $7.5 million over three years to settle New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's lawsuit accusing the company of surreptitiously installing software on computers. Intermix said it reached 'an agreement in principle' and expects to formalize a settlement within the next few weeks. This is a follow-up to a previous slashdot article posted in April."

  • Intermix??? hey, isn't that a spyware program?
  • This is the apparently sad trend in U.S IT industry.

HR fires all the techies and IT folks. Gets bit in the ass by adware and spyware. Comes back with a lawyer and a new bullshit position, Chief Privacy Officer.

Eliot Spitzer is quickly becomming my favorite government official. First corporate fraud, now spyware. What's next? Google bombing? However, one has to wonder if he's just doing all this because he wants to be govenor of NY, or because he actually cares.
    • On one hand I could care less about his political motivations. He's kicking @ss and taking names in a world where little is being done about corporate corruption and naked greed.

On the other, he may be playing the "man of the people" to move up into higher office.

Of course, I don't live in New York so as long as he's working over "the man" more power to him!

"Intermix spokeswoman Sara Jones said that how the $7.5 million would be distributed and if any would go to consumers has not yet been determined."

So how was the figure of 7.5 million reached anyway?

    this part I find amusing:

"Intermix shares increased 71 cents, or 12 percent, to $6.81 in morning trading on the American Stock Exchange."

Idiots never cease to amaze me.
    • True humor is their #1 rule for their codes of conduct is

"Compliance with Laws, Rules and Regulations
Company policy requires that all employees, officers and directors of the Company, comply fully with both the spirit and the letter of all laws, rules and regulations..." How does SpyWare comply with the Spirit of the law?
  • He's already a better law enforcer than the GWB's choices.

Imagine if Spitzer in charge of the Microsoft Anti-trust case. Bill Gates would be selling pencils in Times Square.

I'd rather see Spitzer make an example out of these people and nail their collective ass to the wall. A settlement just doesn't cut it.

  • From TFA: "Intermix has not admitted any wrongdoing or liability." Uh huh... Can we invent a law saying you can sue companies that settle but then claim innocence? Pretty please?
